Welcome to the Smackdown Review for September 26, 2017. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show.

Talking Points

No More Waiting

Baron Corbin is shaping up to be much more interesting then his former Money in the Bank briefcase would have suggested. More savage and cunning, he faced Ty Dillinger as revenge for Dillinger attacking him before his US title match against AJ Styles. The champ was at ringside as Corbin took hits, but waited for his moment. It came when he spilled water on Styles and then threw Dillinger into him. After pinning the perfect 10, Corbin told Styles that he is going to take his title at Hell in the Cell, no shortcuts taken. This is a Corbin who wants to be taken seriously, and is taking steps to do so.

Two Matches in Hell

As the New Day watched from the audience, The Usos had a rematch with the Hype Bros. Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley were arguing at the end of the match, possible signalling the breakup of that team. After the match, The Usos confronted the New Day, yelling at them that they are just jokes. The New Day responded that their match at Hell in the Cell will actually be IN Hell in the Cell. This is the point about the New Day that most people miss. They may laugh and joke around, but they can still kick your ass. The final chapter in this feud should be electric.

Glorious Gimmick

The Undertaker returned. If you are wondering why you didn’t hear about it, it was actually Dolph Ziggler, continuing his mockery of elaborate entrances. Before he walk off, the strains of Glorious filled the arena and Bobby Roode walked to the ring. I had a feeling that it would be Roode who would eventually interrupt Ziggler. A confrontation occurred and a match for Hell in the Cell was made. You can not like Ziggler’s new gimmick, I personally love it, but his boasts of his in ring ability are true. A match with Roode could very well be a Match of the Year contender.

Match of the Night

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn (No contest)

The breaking of Kevin Owens mind took a nasty turn. After refusing to listen to Sami Zayn, a match was booked between the long time rivals. What followed was another showcase of the chemistry that these two can produce. It ended ugly, as Owens power bombed Zayn on the ring apron, and the ref called for the bell. Owens would not be stopped, grabbing a chair and putting it on Zayns head. The arrival of Shane McMahon sent Owens into the crowd, but not before throwing Zayn into Shane’s face. I said last week that perhaps they could not sustain this amount of heat, but it just keeps getting hotter.

Conclusion

There was a lot happing on the blue brand today. Rusev Day was spoiled by Randy Orton, who challenged the Hero of Bulgaria to a match at the pay per view. Shinsuke Nakamura finally got his hands on Jinder Mahl and the Singh brothers. And Fashion Files will return next week. Only one show to go before the Cell lowers.
