Welcome to the Raw Review for October 9, 2017. For both this and Smackdown, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show.

Talking Points

Justice Returns

As the Miz brought out Sheamus and Cesaro for awards, I couldn’t concentrate on what was being said. I knew (EVERYONE knew) what was coming, the question was how. Roman Reigns appeared on stage and was joined by Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. The next five minutes were the most enjoyable I have felt watching Raw. After destroying all four men, The Shield reappeared later to knock down Braun Strowman down. If you want to know is this is working, listen to the cheers when Reigns speared Strowman. This might have hurt the shield, as Strowman will join The Miz, Sheamus and Cesaro against the Shield in a TLC match in two weeks. Smackdown might have the Cell, but this has a chance to be even more brutal.

Ladies Night

Where was this Mickie James when she first came back to WWE? Showing a lot of personality and fire on the microphone, James is building some real excitement for her match against Alexa Bliss at TLC. She even got a little Southern, which is something my wife appreciated quite a bit. Bliss came out, but she was no match for James on the mic or in the ring. As a side note, I am loving the WWE Universe lately for picking up things to use for chants. Case in point: After James called Bliss “Biscuit Butt”, only a few seconds later the crowd was chanting it.

“He Wouldn’t Hurt a Fly”

Finn Balor came to the ring after we had gotten promos that Sister Abigail would be in the building. What followed was possible the most unsettling promo Bray Wyatt has given. After giving the history of his mother, Wyatt morphed again into a nightmare. Sister Abigail spoke about how Wyatt was her prince, the one who would burn it all down. Balor looked completely shocked as Abigail promised to hurt him at TLC. This promo works for the unsettling nature and what it could mean for Wyatt in the future. It is a homage to one of cinema’s greatest monsters, who spoke the very line that Abigail used. If you don’t know who it is, might I suggest a visit to the Bates Motel?

Match of the Night

Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore vs. Kalisto (Crusierweight Championship) (Lumberjack Match) (Kalisto wins by pin fall to become the new Cruiserweight Champion)

First off, I can’t even remember the the last time I saw a Lumberjack match. This match, which was supposed to be at TLC, was the third time that the Cruiserweight division was in the main event spot. This was the best Enzo Amore has looked, both taking and giving bumps. I had forgotten how good Kalisto was. Both looked like stronger wrestlers after this bout was finished. This match was a highlight for both men. The highlight was Kalisto suplexing Amore from the top rope on to the entire Crusierweight division on the floor. Kalisto might have won , but Amore will get his rematch, probably at TLC.

Conclusion

There was electricity in the air the entire night. Emma won the, honor?, of facing Asuka at TLC. Next week, a huge main event as Reigns takes on Strowman inside a steel cage. We all remember what happened to the Big Show , but fortunately Reigns will have some back up. Tune in next Monday for another exciting show.
