The new year is quickly approaching and that means new games to start thinking about. No matter what system you use to play on, there is no doubt that somewhere, somehow, a game will be made to suit your gaming needs. Companies are releasing new and more creative games to woe the masses and this list of my most anticipated games of 2018 should spark a little excitement in all of us.

  1. Monster Hunter World

Releasing: January 26, 2018

Platforms: PS4, PC, Xbox One

Sadly, there’s not much I can say on this game due to not being overly involved with it since the games are on portable devices. I am excited however that the game offers an open 3D world to explore with massive battles. Monster Hunter World offers wild never before seen creatures and an involved weapon system as well that will be unlike any world that has been seen. Console players will truly be able to fully immerse themselves in this world and see the game unlike anything else.

  1. Mega Man 11

Releasing:  TBA / Late 2018

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch

Retro gamers can rejoice with the announcement of the new Mega Man game set to release sometime in the late part of 2018. Although the details are sparse, we do know that the game has hand drawn characters, environments and a 2.5D design. As an added bonus, Capcom also announced that a Mega Man X Legacy Collection will be releasing after that and will be available across all platforms.

  1. Far Cry 5

Release: February 27, 2018

Platform: Xbox One, PC, PS4

Far Cry 5 is a long standing game that is loved by many players. This time around the game is set in a fictional place called Hope County, Montana, the first time the game has been set in the United States. A preacher has started a congregation called Eden’s Gate in order to try and force townsfolk to submit to god. The player (protagonist) will come in and try to take back the town and the believers to set everything right again. As usual, there will be a lot of diverse weapons, a familiar dog friend, and a lot of action along the way.

  1. Red Dead Redemption 2

Release: Spring 2018

Platform: PS4, Xbox One

For the gamers that like multiplayer options, Red Dead Redemption 2 will provide a massive open world with online options. The sequel to the much beloved 2010 title, this game is a prequel and involves Arthur Morgan and his association with the Van Der Lind gang. While most of the plot has been a mystery, the big news is the addition of a multiplayer experience. Given how successful GTA 5 online has been for Rockstar, I hope that they can bring the level of fun in to the old west.

  1. Spider-Man

Release: 2018

Platform: PS4

Insomnia games has gotten their first licensed product with Spider-Man the game. While this might bring up feelings of concern, the trailer that was shown at E3 2017 proved an exciting glimpse in to the world of Spider Man. Becoming separate from the movies, this Spider Man game has decided to focus on some of the more obscure villains. Hopefully the PS4 can finally bring the true Spider Man experience to life with the ability to take control of the physical actions such as web slinging and wall crawling.

  1. Kingdom Hearts III

Release: 2018

Platform: PS4, Xbox One

So far this is my top favorite game that’s being released in 2018. After seeing the game for myself at E3 2016 and waiting for many moons for the game to actually drop, the time has finally come near. Visiting old locations while exploring some of the new ones (San Fransokyo and the world of Toy Story) will bring back a lot of happy memories as well as keep the game fresh and exciting. Seen as the final chapter in the Xehanort saga, Sora will lead the way to explore the 13 darkness’ in preparation for the final battle to balance the universe. Finally, we will find out if this game was worth the wait and maybe get the X-blade too.

  1. Sea of Thieves

Release: 2018

Platform: Xbox One, PC

Much like the cancelled online game Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Sea of Thieves is an open world exploration game. Online players will work together to plunder their way to a happy life, seek out treasures via riddles and dive to the depths below to gather all the treasure they can handle. A good pirate game can’t go without duels too, so players will get to fight enemies and other pirates in the quest to maintain their land and boats.

There are still many games that haven’t been discussed here that will be making an appearance in 2018. Only time will tell which games make next year’s list of top games. If I missed any that you feel should be on the most anticipated list, please comment below!
