After a very informative livestream from the NeatherRealm Watchtower team on July 7th, we now know a lot more about the addition of Sub-Zero to Injustice 2 coming on July 11th. Sub-Zero still has some of his traditional moves and has some strong resemblance to his Mortal Kombat X counterpart, but still has some new tricks up his sleeves.

Sub-Zero comes in to Injustice slowing down matches as he attempts to bring opponents to him instead. This is makes him a defensive fighter, well that and his Ice Ball and Ice Clone moves too that force opponents to take risks so he can capitalize at any open opportunity.

But don’t be fooled by his defensive position, Sub-Zero can also get very aggressive. Have you seen his super move? Let’s just say that opponents should just avoid being cornered. Sub-Zero’s super move consists of creating an ice clone, hitting with a frozen hammer and pounding his opponent with a powerful burst move. It’s pretty epic and looks cool too.

So here’s how everything else breaks down:

Normal and Chain Moves

Like most of the other characters, Sub-Zero has some seriously strong normal attacks and chain attacks. He’s outfitted with 2 uppercut moves with his sword, spin jumps that also add in his sword and a new move that consists of a combo. This combo can be cancelled at any time to create a mix up.  The combo set includes 3-3 actions where Sub-Zero uses kicks, punches or slides. Most of these moves are mid-level too.

Unlockable Moves

Here is what you can get with Sub-Zero:  a classic ice puddle attack, a teleport ability and klone projectile. But those aren’t even the best move of the bunch; it’s the ability to create a bear. Yes, you read that right, Sub-Zero can create an Ice Klone bear for his disposal. According to the stream however, this ability may only be accessible when a specific set of gear is equipped.

Character Traits

This is where things get tricky depending on how you see things. Sub-Zero has another Ice Klone too but it falls under just being a normal character trait. His ability to create a klone of himself helps to defend in matches, but this move is technically listed under a special move. The neat part though is the klone can be used in midair and when the meter at the bottom starts going down; Sub-Zero can quickly create 2 klones before time runs out. When a clone is hit by an opponent, he or she will freeze.

Other standard traits include the ability to use the ice hammer in midair, which seems to be a common theme here. The overhead attack doesn’t do much damage but it’s a nice touch to the character. For his command throw however, Sub-Zero can use the meter to do a restand, and it appears that he can also shank people in the stomach with his ice daggers. This feature is useful in many different situations and will be seen a lot, but it can still be a bit shocking to some.

The master of the ice is a welcome addition to an already stacked character rooster. Like Red Hood before him, he brings a new set of skills. We will have to see if StarFire changes the game again when she is released later. The only real question is: Can we possible get Frost in the game?
