Welcome to the Smackdown Review for September 12, 2017. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show.
Talking Points
Challenge Accepted
There was no open challenge for thew US Title tonight, instead AJ Styles gave Ty Dillinger his match from a week ago. The crowd was solely behind Styles, all though there were plenty of Dillinger fans. This match was fast paced, with Dillinger hanging with the Phenomenal One the entire match. Baron Corbin made his way to the ring, forcing Styles to deal with him and almost costing him the match. He would recover, forcing Dillinger to tap out. There was no time to rest as Corbin assaulted Styles and hit the End of Days on the floor. He announced that next week, he would challenge Styles for the US title.
Summerslam Rematch
Natalia and Naomi battled for the Smackdown Women’s Championship match, as Carmella and James Ellsworth looked on from commentary. Naomi looked more focused, her chance at the title paramount in her mind. Natalya had to have eyes in the back of her head, weary of Carmella cashing in. Carmella would play a part in the outcome as Naomi attacked her and Ellisworth. This gave Natalia her opportunity to lock in the Sharpshooter, forcing Naomi to tap.out. With Naomi out of the picture, who will be the next women to step up to challenge the Black Queen of Harts?
The Chairman Returns
Kevin Owens started the show detailing all the changes he would make to Smackdown. He continued to pop up with his ridiculous demands. All the fun and games stopped when Vince McMahon came to the ring. After confronting Owens with the fact that he would never win a lawsuit, Mr. McMahon told Owens in no uncertain terms that Shane would destroy him. He then booked Owens and Shane in A Hell in the Cell match. Owens then attacked him, laying a beat down that began with Mr McMahon bloody and ended with a Frog Splash. The story line got even more personal and Owens will have hell to pay.
Match of the Night
New Day vs. Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos (Sin City Street Fight) (New Day wins by pin fall to become the new Tag Team Champions)
How could the New Day and The Usos top their fantastic matches of late? Simple, turn up the violence. This was what a street fight should be, with chairs, tables, and even kendo sticks showing up. The Usos played the snarling champs, while the New Day abandoned all gimmicks and jokes. The biggest surprise was the level of emotion Kofi Kingston brought to the match. He looked like a man who had been pushed over his limit. Another show stealing match by these two teams. Of course, The Usos have a rematch, and I wonder what they can do to top this.
Conclusion
Las Vegas to to witness an excellent and emotional night of the blue brand. Dolph Ziggler continued his mockery of entrances, in a gimmick I am liking more and more each week. Jinder Mahl showed another part of his personalty, leaving Anti American statement for simply mocking his opponent. Rusev decided he needed to crush a legend. Hats off to Vince, a living legend and a man who took some hard hitting bumps. Next week, Will Corbin make good on his promise for the US Title? How will Shane react to Owens attack? Find out next week on Smackdown.
