Welcome to the Smackdown Review for March 6, 2017. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show. And since the Mixed Match Challenge has started, I will review who won this weeks match up.
Talking Points
The Reason
Charlotte and Ruby Riott met in the ring a few days before their match at Fastlane. Ruby grabbed the microphone and finally gave a reason why she formed the Riott Squad. Talking about how Charlotte only got what she has because of her name and her famous father, Ruby said the reason the Riott Squad was formed was to break the myth of Charlotte. Charlotte responded that because of who she is, she has to work harder then anyone. A beat down by the Riott Squad looked unavoidable until Bobby Roode arrived. It was a nice nod to their pairing in the Mixed Match Challenge
Not Just About the Title
Bobby Roode and Randy Orton have tried to downplay any animosity towards each other in their US Title Match. Any chance that this match will not be personal is gone now, thanks to Jinder Mahl. Mahl and Orton had a match with Roode on commentary. Mahl used their anger towards each other to his advantage. Tensions boiled over when Orton sent Mahl crashing into Roode. Roode got on the apron and distracted Orton for Mahl to pick up the victory. Both men now head into Sunday with some very personal feelings about each other.
Ziggler and AJ
AJ Styles addressed the WWE Universe, talking about John Cena getting added to the match. He was angry, but said his match at Fastlane was a roadblock to his dream match with Shinsuke Nakamura at Wrestlemania. This brought out Dolph Ziggler, who mocked Styles for hie desire to please the fans. Things got real as Styles said Ziggler had not reached his potential, and Ziggler telling Styles that he should have been in the WWE ten years ago. Ziggler then told how he had reached the top, and the fans did nothing to help him stay there. The segment ended when Ziggler and Styles decided to start their match early.
Match of the Night
Dolph Ziggler vs. AJ Styles/ AJ Styles vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin (Zayn wins by pinfall)
The first match led into the second and both were excellent. Ziggler and Styles wrestled each other for about twenty minutes before Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn attacked both men. This led Shane McMahon to make it a Fatal Five Way. all five men they had a beautiful car wreck, with everyone looking strongfor long stretchs. The highlight was a powerbomb with all five men included. The ending of the match came when Zayn kicked his best friend Owens for the pinfall. Asked why afterwards, Zayn said he was overlooked but no more. The alliance between Owens and Zayn might be officially over.
Mixed Match Challenge Week 8
Alexia Bliss & Braun Strowman vs. Jimmy Uso & Naomi (Strowman and Bliss win by pin fall)
This was the best match the WWE Mixed Match Challenge has put on. There was comedy as well as some great spots and some hard hitting action. Jimmy Uso had to take the wrath of Braun Strowman in the first few minutes. Once Alexia Bliss and Naomi were tagged in, it was all about who was the better wrestler. Jimmy tried to take Strowman out by attacking him, but Strowman refused to go down. He caught Bliss two times after she fell from the ring. Bliss got in trouble and that was when Strowman went on a rampage. He grabbed Jimmy and did a running powerbomb through the table. This allowed Bliss to roll up Naomi for the win. From Naomi being concerned about Jimmy facing Strowman, to vague romantic hints with Bliss and Strowman, this was all out fun.
Conclusion
.Shinsuke Nakamura will face Rusev at Fastlane, and Nakamura can sing! But remember kids, as Rusev said, you can’t make up your own holiday. Naomi and Becky Lynch will take on Carmella and Natalya as well, after Lynch destroyed Carmella. A few days, and then it’s time for Fastlane.
