This RPG, originally released in Japan in November of 2017, is now available worldwide for everyone. Little Witch Academia is popular due to its original anime format but Bandai Namco Entertainment saw that people were craving more and created Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time. With availability now on PS4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows, everyone will be able to jump right in to this fun feminine game and be the witch of their dreams.

At Luna Nova Academy players will work with Akko, Sucy, and Lotte to explore the magical Academy in this side scrolling adventure. Spells will be cast as you work your way through dungeons and more while discovering the strange shift in time that has happened. Friendship in this beat ‘em up, as well as magic will have you believing in the story in no time. With familiar controls and game play, the group will undoubtedly unravel the secrets of the magic key.

Originally when I saw this game, I wondered why there was no availability on the Switch. The style is great and since it is also 3D, this would have been a perfect fit. Characters will use up a lot of space in the levels that seem different at first. Not very often can characters completely move both forward and backward to access almost everything on the screen, but this is particularly helpful when going through the dungeons. This movement is a lot like what we saw from Little Nightmares from Tarsier Studios and it can be challenging at times when fighting enemies.

One thing I noticed is that the game play is average and mostly what could be expected from any other RPG. There isn’t anything special added to the mix and making sure your characters are gaining experience and being managed as far as their stats is a typical element to continuing the game. Specifically, Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is a game that can be played even if you have no knowledge of the previous content because the story moves along and captivates anyone playing without rehashing the original content. At the same time too, the characters seem to have been displayed differently and the color palette stands out getting the attention of players. The spell casting is a very nice touch too. With the controls, I don’t think there is anything that will confuse players. There are not hard combos to bring out the rage and difficulty here so this will make it easier for everyone to enjoy as well.

Overall, I enjoyed Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time. I think something else could be added as far as difficulty when fighting enemies but the story is nice. I get nostalgia thinking of this like a Harry Potter style RPG but with a feminine cast instead. Anyone that is even remotely interested in anime or Little Witch Academia in general should definitely get in to this game, even if the game play is average.
