Welcome to the Smackdown Review for June 5 2018. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show
Talking Points
Give Me Both
Carmella truly believes in transitive property. She reasons that because she beat Charlotte and Charlotte beat Askua, she can beat Askua. The Empresses herself made her way out to the ring, but was interrupted by Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. Both wanted Askua and Paige allowed her to pick her opponent. she wanted both and the handicap match was on. While Askua was able to get the victory, the real story was Rose and Deville. Both came to the main roster with limited exposure, but both have grown by leaps and bounds. There is something there that can be turned into something special.
Mixed Match
Naomi and Jimmy took on Lana and Aden English. This match was what the Mixed match challenged should have presented every night. Lana was able to hang with the other three and some really cool moves happened. Naomi hit a suicide dive that could have gone very wrong and then Jimmy launched his wife into Lana. English and Lana surprised me how well they work together. They might be a better team then Rusev and Lana.
Tea Time
Becky Lynch and Charlotte faced off from their disagreement last week. There were some fun moments that only happen when real best friends get in the ring together. Both women held each other’s legs and both put them down at the same time. No dirty tricks, but a match full of respect. when Charlotte tried a moonsault, Lynch brought up her knees and finally used the Dis-Arm-Her to win. Lynch is back to her winning ways which is always a good thing.
Match of the Night
New Day vs. Samoa Joe, Rusev, and the Miz (New Day wins by pinfall)
The New Day are the best faction in the WWE, but they need the right cast of characters to play off. The Miz has been the corner stone of a new feud as he is mocked and angered by the trio’s jokes. Samoa Joe and Rusev certainly bring the power that enables Miz to be his best. The ending was perfect too, as Joe and Rusev attacked Miz after a pancake attack went wrong. This shows that teammates are fragile this close to Money in the Bank.
Conclusion
Cien attacked Sin Cara. Karl Anderson was able to beat Harper. Shinsuke Nakamura continued his mind games with AJ Styles. Big Cass says he will not come up short against Daniel Bryan at MITB.
