Capcom has once again found a way to take everyone back to the good old days and in an epic way. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is here and players can now jump in to the past by playing 12 games, now conveniently in one place. Capcom also added some new features to this 30th anniversary collection of Street Fighter and most, if not all gamers will be pleasantly surprised.
For some of the die hard players, only the Alpha Gold 2 and Alpha 3 games are missing but that’s not the worst thing to happen comparatively. In this collection Capcom upped the collections by giving the games a boost to the quality and graphics as well as adding the ability to play others online or chose to walk down memory lane by fighting the CPU. This isn’t the case for every single game but most of them feel fresher.
Along with this online feature, Street Fighter also is looking to have tournaments. So if you particularly rule at any of these, this might be your chance. Also, how cool is it that you can challenge others from all over the world? As an added bonus, fans can travel back in time with well developed character timelines, artwork, an interactive timeline and awesome music.
Some fans have argued that leaving the Alpha series out of this collection is unjust because the games flowed a lot smoother, but they may be missing the overall point of the anniversary release. Getting this collection is like taking a walk down memory lane or even taking a history lesson of gaming and how the one-on-one series has evolved over time. Capcom chose these titles to showcase what makes Street Fighter the epic title it is. Also, getting this collection is hands down the best value for the money.
Fans of the series will notice right away as well that the Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection has taken every measure to make sure that replaying these games puts players right back in to the arcade days. Nothing else can beat that feeling of experiencing the game for the first time with all of your friends.
Do some of the series start to run together? I will leave it up to you, but I will point at Street Fighter II. I had forgotten how many versions of this game were created. If you are new to the series, you might find the earlier games agonizingly slow. It’s Turbo when the games start to pick up speed. An added bonus is that you can finally decide what version was the best. This might however renew the old Sega vs. Nintendo rivalry.
