Previewed during the Microsoft press at E3 2018, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice made some fans gasp with excitement. This is probably due to the fact that FromSoftware published the game and are the same people that are behind the Bloodborne and Dark Souls games. Information like this is enough to make me want to watch. But here is what is really going to be happening in Shadows Die Twice and why there is a watch for an official drop date.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a third person action-adventure game. This already is different from the other created games by FromSoftware. The main differences are that there will be no character creation, no character classes and characterization, and no option for multiplayer either. Somehow they are changing the direction of what everyone has grown accustomed to. This doesn’t keep the developers away from their main goal of creating a good game however.
The plot here is focused around a ninja (or shinobi) who has recently learned that his lord has been kidnapped and he himself had been left for dead and now has a missing arm that was replaced by a sculptor. In 16th century Japan there was constant military conflict as the society was changing so samurai were common and considered an enemy in this plot. Assumed from this point, the ninja will rise to rescue his lord. It’s how he does it however that makes Shadows Die Twice different then the norm.
Compared to the Souls series, players are in an RPG and in constant combat looking to take down an enemies health points (HP). This time however, combat consists of finding weaknesses in the enemies balance which allows for one opening to strike and kill the enemy in one spot. Along with this, stealth has been added and adventure tools such as a grappling hook and torch. An exciting and different change to such a game is the regeneration. When the player dies they will be regenerated back to their location and not a previous checkpoint, which is incredibly nice.
Overall I’m waiting for this game because of the drastic difference there will be between the Souls series and the changes that have been made for this new style. I think the combat will be easier to handle and possibly a bit too easy. If the plot becomes even better then the little information we have right now then I will also be over the moon. Keep an eye out in early 2019 for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice!
