Welcome to Extreme Rules for July 15 2018. For all WWE pay-per-views, I will go over every match, share the highlights and quotes, and look ahead to the next show.
Sin Cara vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas (Almas win by pinfall)
Andrade Almas has lost nothing in his move to the main roster. He is simply too good to be overlooked. In this short feud with Sin Cara, Almas has shown himself to be a blue chipper of the highest order. This feud looks like it was put together to show Almas at his most dominate and that Sin Cara can still bring it. It’s time for Cien to start hunting some bigger game
Highlights: Cien dodges a suicide dive from Cara and Cara hits the ring barrier
Everything Cien does looks like it hurts
The spot where Cien lays on the ring rope while Zelina Vega lays below him is awesome.
Grade: 8 out of 10
The New Day vs. SAnitY (Tables Match)(SAniTy wins by by putting Kofi Kingston through a table)
SAniTy might be the next big faction in the WWE. Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dane have the aura around them that they could win a match at any time. The big question with the New Day vanquished is who might stand up to them. This is a group that does not want to win belts. They want to cause as much destruction as they can.
Highlights: Xavier Woods and Kingston hit suicide dives at the same time
Daine dives through the ropes onto Kingston and Woods
New Day hits a tower of doom on Wolfe and Young
Wolfe bites Kingston
Grade 8 out of 10
Raw Tag Team Champions “Woken” Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt vs. The B-Team ( The B-Team wins by pin fall to become the New Raw Tag Team Champions)
There was an argument about both teams winning this one. Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy have made for one of the most entertaining tag teams in a long while. Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas took what looked like a career setback with the Miz leaving and turned it into something special. We will have to see if the B-Team’s reign is short lived and lasts awhile
Highlights: Bo Dallas refuses to fight Bray Wyatt
Dallas goes high to sell Wyatt’s move
Dallas’s finishing move is awesome
Grade 7 out of 10
Finn Bálor vs. “Constable” Baron Corbin (Balor wins by pinfall)
Strange that they took the small vs big story from Daniel Bryan and Big Cass and transferred it to Finn Balor and Baron Corbin. The story here was Corbin was all power and stopping Balor from picking up the pace. Corbin began to think that he had the match won before the bell rang. Balor rolled him up in small package. Balor had a smile on his face, but will Corbin have the last laugh?
Highlights: Corbin making Jojo re-announce him ever time is classic heel.
Balor springboards right into a Corbin forearm.
Balor counters an End of Days
Grade: 7 out of 10
SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella vs. Asuka (with James Ellsworth suspended above the ring in a Shark Cage) (Carmella wins by pinfall)
We all knew that James Ellsworth was not going to stay in the shark cage. It was not Ellsworth who won the match for Carmella, it was the shark cage. While Askua was occuppied with Ellsworth, Carmella threw Askua head first into the cage. After the bell, Askua snapped, attacking anyone in her path with Askua done, will Becky Lynch challenge The Princess of Staten Island?
Highlights: Ellsworth throws many objects to Carmella
Askua hits hard suplexs.
Grade: 7 out of 10
United States Champion Jeff Hardy vs Shinsuke Nakamura ( Nakamura wins by pin fall to become the new US Champion)
This match was over in a matter of seconds. After hitting a low blow before the bell, Shinsuke Nakamura hit the Kinshasa for the win. Nakamura had little time to celebrate as Randy Orton walked to the ring. The Viper did not attack the new champion, instead attack Hardy. This created both shock and intrigue.
Highlights: The low blow before the bell.
Orton stalking Jeff Hardy
Grade 8 out of 10
Braun Strowman vs Kevin Owens (Steel Cage Match)(Owens wins by escaping the cage)
Kevin Owens beat Braun Strowman. He paid a hell of a price to get it though. After Strowman threw him around the ring, Owens handcuffed Strowman to the ring ropes and then tried to escape. Strowman caught him at the top of the cage and threw him through the announcers table. It was brutal. Strowman is one of the few people who can lose a match and come out stronger.
Highlights: Strowman throws Owens into every side of the cage.
Owens tries to escape every chance he gets
Owens gets his head slammed in the cage door
Owens does the DX chop
The fall through the table
Grade 10 out of 10
SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers vs. Team Hell No( The Bludgeon Brothers win by pinfall)
This match started before the bell. Earlier, The Bludgeon Brothers attacked Daniel Bryan and Kane. This led to Bryan attempting to take on the Champions by himself. Bryan gave it his all, but the numbers game was catching up to him when a hobbled Kane came out. They gave it the old college try, but the Bludgeon Brothers were too much.
Highlights: Harper powerslamns Rowan onto Bryan
Bryan sidesteps and Harper flies onto Rowan
Grade: 7 out of 10
Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley (Lashley wins by pinfall)
The most extreme match of the night so far had no stipulation. Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns were fighting a hostile crowd, but they eventually had them in the palm of their hands. A slow pace began to pick up speed and violence. Reings and Lashley brought the excitement from their brawl on Raw. Just a great match.
Highlights: Lashley is thrown into the stairs, but he steps on them.
Lashley powerslams a charging Reigns
Reigns throws Lashley over the ropes hard. It was scary.
Lashley suplexs Reigns over an announce table
Grade 9 out of 10
Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax (Extreme Rules Match) (Bliss wins by pinfall)
Alexia Bliss’s time as champion is officaly on borrowed time. She barely survived the match with Nia Jax and now Rhonda Rousey is waiting. It would be like avoiding being shot and then looking up to see a missile about to land. Both Bliss and Jax adapted well to the extreme stipulation and Mickie James and Natalya played their parts well.
Highlights: Jax breaks a kendo stick in half
Jax drops Bliss onto a trash can
Rousey slams Mickie James into the barricade
Grade 9 out of 10
WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Rusev (Styles wins by pinfall)
There was not a perfect ending to Rusev Day. This was a match about a story, with Rusev fighting a sore leg while AJ Styles had his back targeted. These two have two styles that meshed perfectly. This was about who would be able to hit the big move at the right time. Rusev deserves more title shots, he has proven that he deserves them
Highlights: The selling of Rusev’s leg and Style’s back.
Rusev runs right into a forearm.
Rusev can’t put the Acolyte in because of his leg
Rusev suplexs Styles on the outside
Styles hits a springboard 450 from accross the ring
Grade 9 out of 10
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins (30-Minute WWE Iron Man Match)(Ziggler won 5-4 falls)
Mcintyre did not last 10 minutes. After attacking Rollins, he was kicked out by the referee. From there, it became who among Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins could gain the final advantage. When Ziggler pulled ahead, he went to the sleeper holds, while Rollins started hitting everything to gain a fall. The score was tied with three minutes. After official time had expired, sudden death occurred and Mcintyre distracted Rollins for Ziggler to get the final win.
Highlights: Rollins pulls Ziggler from the floor into a powerbomb.
Mcintyre slams Rollins from the ring to the barricade and back again
Rollins hits two big suicide dives
Ziggler kicks Rollins of the top rope
Rollins goes to submissions in the last minutes.
Grade: 10 out of 10
Final Thoughts: A little less extreme but still a excellent show. An announcement was made that Brock Lesnar has to show up tomorrow or be stripped of the title. We will see what goes down.
