Welcome to the Smackdown Review for July 31, 2018. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show
Talking Points
The Champ
Becky Lynch was out first talking about her title shot at Summerslam. She did not go long until Carmella came out. This was a new Princess of Staten Island. Talking about the history of women and how she is roasted on social media, Carmella wanted to tear the house down with Lynch. A quick musical distraction and Carmella attacked Lynch. She pulled out a chair and was about to DDT her challenger when Charlotte made the save. This would lead to a match between Charlotte and Carmella. If Charlotte wins, she is added to Summerslam.
Sermon in the Ring
Samoa Joe wanted to talk about AJ Styles. Sitting in the middle of the ring, Joe talked about his respect for Styles and what he has accomplished. He then made the remark that the championship means more to Styles then his own family. He promised that he would send Styles back to his family without the belt. Joe took on the role of a religious zealot, a scary sight indeed. A villain who believes that what he is doing is moral right is the scariest villain of all.
Reality
Daniel Bryan wanted to talk about what happened last week with The Miz. Miz showed up, but only on the screen as he was on location. What followed was some deeply personal shots by both men. Bryan talked about how all Miz wanted was fame and that he would never get the success of other former wrestlers. Miz shot back that Bryan was over and he should just let his contract expire. They will wrestle an Summerslm, but the pressure keeps building and building between these two each week.
Match of the Night
The Bar vs. The Usos (The Bar wins by pinfall)
The Bar made their first in ring action from a very long time. The Usos were ready to go to war for a chance to face the Bludgeon Brothers at Summerslam. This was high flying and hard hitting match. The Bar look as if they have taken no time off and The Usos look great as ever. The fact that this match got a lot of time made it special. New Day and The Bar square off next week for a shot at the Tag Team Belts.
Conclusion
Zelina Vega was able to beat Lana. Randy Orton attacked Jeff Hardy with a little help from Shinsuke Nakamura. Charlotte made Carmella tap to be added to Summerslam
