Welcome to the Smackdown Review for August 7, 2018. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show

Talking Points
Violent

If Randy Orton is looking to go back to his most interesting phase, the metamorphosis is complete. He talked about destroying the fan’s belief in Jeff Hardy. He said that he was going to get so violent, that he will make you afraid to watch. Orton has now become something different. At first, I thought this was just a new version of the Legend Killer, but this is something new. Orton has become the villain who will destroy the entire world just to prove his point.

The Price

AJ Styles returned to answer Samoa Joe’s remarks from last week. Styles talked about how long he has been married and the price it has taken on him and his family. He mentioned the years that he and Joe spent trying to get here. He promised that Joe would never get his hands on this title. The segment was a reminder to everyone how much wrestlers put into this profession and how much they sacrifice.

No Where is Safe

The Miz and Daniel Bryan is on for Summerslam. The Miz was interviewed on location and he took the time to talk about his new show. Things got heated as he discussed the fact that he does not need this match, but Bryan does. As he started another tirade, Bryan appeared and attacked both him and his security. Miz was able to smash a glass vase and run away. It took Bryan about ten seconds before he got to his feet. If I hit anyone with a glass vase and they got up in that amount of time, I would run.

Match of the Night

New Day vs. The Bar (New Day wins by pinfall)

The final match to determine who faces the Bludgeon Brothers at Summerslam was given about twenty five minutes. The New Day and The Bar tore it down, two teams that know each other and know how to wrestle. There were so many near falls at the end I lost count. With their victory, New Day must find a way to stop the two monsters who hold the Tag Team Championships.

 Conclusion

Zelina Vega  is 2-0 against Lana. Shinsuke Nakamura beat R-Truth. Charlotte and Becky Lynch beat the Iconics, but not without a little dissent. The Bludgeon Brothers defeated three local talents at once.
