Originally released in early access in 2017 on Steam, Dead Cells is back to make a grand entrance on to major platforming systems. Called a metroidvania rogue-lite action-platformer, the developers Motion Twin made sure Dead Cells would get you hooked from the moment the game is started.

Anyone that has been raised with roguelikes and seen the original creations of rogue-lites, Dead Cells gives players their version called a RogueVania game. Interconnected levels give players they drive to want to explore their surroundings as well as find access to the island. Players will be challenged too, with an ever changing castle layout and 2D combat. The kicker? There are no checkpoints so when players die, they must start all over.

Dead cells is action packed which has created a huge attraction. Not only is the action great but also the addition of permanent weapon upgrades. Skills are what make this game most enjoyable however. With determination and constant drive, the game becomes easier to master. Combat is very unforgiving and since there is no safety net, the fear of failure is upon you all the time.

Other features include hidden rooms, new paths to explore upon unlocked achievements, progressive exploration, permadeath and the emergency panic roll (which we all need). Last but not least, there are over 50 weapons and spells that create a very unique atmosphere. All of this means the replayability of the game is incredibly high.

Really the only downside of Dead Cells is probably the frustration that comes along with death. Games like this are suppose to be difficult and permadeath feels like the worst. Sometimes you just want to scream and walk away but, this is what makes Dead Cells great at the same time. If you want the achievements and hidden mysteries, you will surely sit back down and work out your emotions by doing the game again.

Dead Cells is highly recommended. Now with the ability to play on all major consoles, more people can enjoy the same frustrations and discuss how their journeys have been different upon exploration. Every level and skill obtained has surely got to make you feel good inside. That’s what matters right?
