Capcom is back to release the remastered version of Okami HD on the Nintendo Switch, originally created by Clover Studio. Now with additional features, players can take the game with them and still save the world. Originally released last year on all major consoles, PS4, Xbox and Windows PC, the Switch version will have touchscreen controls on the handheld mode while the game will also have Joy-Con abilities while in tabletop or TV mode.
Players in Okami take on the role of a Japanese sun goddess named Amaterasu. She is a wolf-like deity that goes on an adventure to save the world that has been plunged in to evil. Japanese folklore plays a big part in the game as well as sumi-e ink painting, which players will get to interact with on the Switch.
The original game was a masterpiece. It also suffered from being released at a time when people were moving from the PS2 to the PS3. Because of this, the game did not do well commercially. It was almost universal acclaimed in critical circles, and the game would never really go away. Different ports kept popping up and now most people agree it one of the best games ever made.
The Switch is the perfect console for this game. While a Wii port did allow for motion controls, the use of the Switch is a much better fit. Using the touchscreen makes the painting much more interactive, a must since the story and the art draw the player into the world. Okami deserves to be played by everyone, simple as that.
Although the original Okami was released in 2006, the deep following of the game keeps the story alive. The artwork is still just as vibrant to look at as it is to interact with. Not too overly simplistic either, Okami provides decent tasks and a great plot as well. Whatever system you choose, just make sure to play it
