We are getting close to the 90th birthday of one of the most popular cartoon characters in the world, Mickey Mouse. Mickey has been in quite a few video games in his decades long career. One of the earliest was for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game, published by Capcom, was Mickey Mousecapade a video game that celebrated not only the famous mouse, but a few other Disney characters.

One Of Mickey’s friends has been kidnapped and Mickey and Minne must go from one location to other to try and rescue her. Minnie sometimes gets taken and Mickey must rescue her. Mickey uses ninja throwing stars to get past enemies. The bosses range from Witch Hazel to the classic villain, Peg-legged Pete. This game was very different from the Japanese and other regions. Bosses and even locations changed. After seeing both, one has a more definitive story.

This game was also part of one of the biggest mysteries in my gaming history. My parents used to rent the NES from one of the grocery stores (Yes, this was a thing back in the day.) One day my mother discovered that all the  systems were rented out. Deciding that buying one would actually be cheaper in the long run, my mother purchased a NES. The game included Mickey Mousecapade. No Super Mario Bros. or Duck Hunt. There was a picture of the game on the box. I have looked at NES and Disney history boards for years and there is no mention of this bundle listed. Where did it come from?

The graphics and music were pretty good for a early game in the first generation console age. The game was actually pretty difficult and the controls were not the best. There was something charming about playing in the Disney world, however, and this game allowed children to play in that fantastic world. Mickey would continue to appear in games, and different generations would continue to play in the universe that this game started.
