Transference, a few things come to mind when that word is mentioned. In this style of game however, Transference will mess with the mind while providing and almost movie-like experience. SpectreVision and Ubisoft teamed up to bring a unique experience to horror and thriller fans and their consoles of choice.
Although horror games are not typically my style to play (because I’m a chicken) I will watch them over and over instead, or force others to play them. Transference however, is a psychological thriller which peaked my interest. When psychology is involved, a new element of thought is added and that’s what stopped me in my tracks. Suddenly, my first thought was of the game Untold Stories and the older movie The Cell, both psychological things with a creep factor.
Transference debuted at E3 this year on the Ubisoft stage and wowed everyone. The plot wasn’t completely clear at the time but now it’s all laid out. A scientist that is pretty far from what most would call normal, has set aside memories from a dysfunctional family. Unfortunately those memories were corrupted in some way. Now, you must piece together the memories from each of the family members points of view and try to find a way to resolve these family problems.
Through a series of puzzles, well maze like puzzles, pieces of memory will start to become clear. By traveling around the house (the maze) and interacting with anything you can, the story will start to unfold. Not everything is going to be so simple however. There will be some tense moments and frightening moments.
In a unique way, Ubisoft and SpectreVision brought movies and gaming together. Transference is like playing with a movie in a way. At some point in the game, you the player, may get to decide the fate of others. The scientist is already quite odd, but will you be? The only way to know will be to play the game for yourself.
