A little game by Robot Gentleman came out recently that most people might have passed up in order to play AAA games, that game being 60 Parsecs. This same developer also did 60 Seconds and fans couldn’t be more ecstatic at this new release. Now with a new plot and same fun basic system, players can take their mission around the galaxy!
Much like 60 Seconds, the predecessor to 60 Parsecs, the game focuses on a team that has fled Earth in order to avoid the nuclear war that was about to happen. Suddenly finding out that they may also be in trouble in space, the team must grab everything they can in 60 seconds and get to the shuttle. From there the game takes on a survival adventure genre. Grabbing food and health kits is a really big deal here. You just never know how many days you will have to survive in space, if you can that is.
Although this is an indie game, 60 Parsecs has added the ability to craft items within the game to try and help the team survive out in space. One of the goals is to survive as long as you can until there is another chance to gather more supplies. Trips to random planets and run ins with new characters that may show up along the way is interesting and fun because the story grows with every development.
Visually 60 Parsecs is well suited for the game play. The design is very nice and small objects make the space look better instead of worse. Compared to the original game, the graphics look just as good if not better. Musically, everything is great too which is a bonus.
When it comes to the bad things of the game, there really aren’t many things to mention. The biggest issue with the game is the balancing issue with rationing food. Usually one person will use up one can of food and then a long period will come to wait for more supplies. When carrying a large team, one can of soup and many hungry mouths just doesn’t work and death comes fast. Luckily Robot Gentleman heard the cries of fans and used the feedback to balance every aspect of rationing and team issues so that everyone could enjoy a solid game. The patches were released only a couple days later which really encouraged people to keep going with their gameplay.
Overall, 60 Parsecs is still addictive and fun. The time limit imposed on the game makes every move count. The added pressure of the clock and keeping everyone alive is quite a thrill and will keep people coming back for more. Who knows how many days you can survive!
