Welcome to the WWE Raw Review for October 1, 2018. For both this and Smackdown, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show.
Maybe
Dean Ambrose was interviewed in the middle of the ring about his support for the Shield. Using a hypothetical way of speaking, Ambrose said that maybe he was just waiting for a the perfect moment to betray his brothers. Baron Corbin came out and offered Ambrose the choice of fighting of of his brothers for their belts or Braun Strowman. This is the way a heel boss should act. Dangle something the babyface wants in front of him. Ambrose would fight Strowman, but he reminded Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins he could have made a different choice.
Rowdy
Rhonda Rousey faced off with Ruby Riott with their respective teammates looking on. This was probably Rousey’s best match, a give and take that made both women look great. Riott is slowly becoming one of the most interesting women in the division. If there is no plans for Rousey at Evolution yet, the WWE could have a gold mine waiting in a Riott/Rousey battle for the Raw Women’s Championship Belt.
Seattle SuperSonics
Elias and Kevin Owen were in the middle of the ring doing their thing. But one line changed everything. Elias said that John Cena and Bobby Lashley teaming together made as much sense as “Seattle having a basketball team.” The crowd went CRAZY, booing for a solid ten minutes. Elias insults something the city holds dear ever time he talks, but this was so load Owens and Elias could not even speak over it. There might have to be a new definition of what type of heat this is.
Match of the Night
Braun Strowman vs. Dean Ambrose (Strowman wins by DQ)
While all members of the Shield were in action today, this match between these two was probably the best of the three. Strowman was hitting all the power moves, but Ambrose kept at him, wearing the monster down. One thing that was really cool was how Ambrose would use any method to escape from Strowman. The run in by The Shield protected Strowman while also setting up conflict within Ambrose. Could he have beaten him?
Conclusion
The Authors of Pain have moved to destroying the main roster, starting with the B-Team. Bayley beat Alcia Fox. Seth Rollins lost to Drew McIntyre. Roman Reigns beat Dolph Ziggler. Lashley could not beat Owens. Konner got another win courtesy of Bobby Roode.
