Welcome to the Smackdown Review for October 2, 2018. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show
Talking Points
Buried Alive
Paige opened the show by letting us know that AJ Styles’ family was ok. She thought about firing Samoa Joe, but Styles talked her out of it. She then played a message from Styles at his home. Sounding like a broken man, Styles said he would stay at home until Joe was on his was to Australia. He then got angry, promising that Joe would never come back. This is how you sell this, Styles at home afraid for his family. Saturday should be one hell of a match.
The Proof
Rusev and Lana demanded that Aiden English show the proof of what happened in Milwaukee. English came out and after some stalling, showed video of him warming up for his song. Lana knocked on the door and English let her in. She then said that she wanted English. The tape stopped there and English said there was much more, but he would give the rights to TMZ. Rusev chased him while Lana tried to explain. There is obviously something innocent after the pause, but will Rusev see it in time?
Surprise
Becky Lynch said she had a surprise ahead of Super Show Down. She said that being nice got her nowhere and now she is going to just start taking. She played a video recapping her feud with Charlotte. The crowd was not booing, in fact they cheered her even harder. She even mentioned the poster not showing her and showed off her own creation. Charlotte came out and destroyed her. Charlotte looked vicious.
Match of the Night
Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin (Benjamin wins by pin fall)
The story of this match was not Daniel Bryan and Shelton Benjamin, which was very good. The story was Bryan and the Miz, who sat in on commentary. Saying that he got Benjamin back on Smackdown, Miz got to watch as Benjamin defeated Bryan while attacking his ribs. Miz continued the beat down after, shoving Bryan into the table before hitting the Skull Crushing Final. Saturday brings an opportunity for a title, and Bryan might have to get on Miz’s level to win.
Conclusion
Randy Orton almost broke Ty Dillenger’s finger. R-Truth and Carmella beat Cien and Vega. Askua beat Peyton Royce
