Now with the official release of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, things are clearer now that Ubisoft is right on target by updating the game and being progressive with their additions. Originally the company said they were going to hold off on adding another Assassin’s release but moved forward anyway, and we couldn’t be happier. Odyssey is the release that should have been at the forefront compared to some previous editions in the series.
Since our review in June of the E3 demo on the game, we can now finally talk in depth about the new editions to this release and everything involved with it. Many know of the story mode in the game, which includes three different stories and 40 hours of gameplay alone. This isn’t everything however.
A very progressive move for the game is the ability to play as a woman or a man. Originally the developers didn’t have a female option due to the difficulties creating a female character and the extensive time it would take to put one together. Even with the addition of this new character option, this doesn’t affect the romance story line within the game. No matter who you choose to flirt with as your character (male or female), you can also build romance with anyone you choose (male or female). A very bold and forward move that can be appreciated.
Along with these additions, Ubisoft also created a streamlined three branch upgrading system. Focusing on ability upgrades mostly, players can choose how to guide their own journey. The three options focus on hunter, assassin and warrior. This allows players to choose which category they want to add to the most such as melee attacks, stealth and ranged attacks. Compared to Origins, Odyssey is a lot more player guided to build a unique and personal experience.
Other experiences in the game that will prove that Odyssey is a well rounded game are adventures such as having a naval attack that allows players to control ships, customize those same ships and battle others for treasure. New areas can be explored here in an adventure that takes away from the normal on-ground battles but still tie in to the overall experience. If ground is more your style though, there is the option to a 150 vs. 150 battle and test all of your skills against your enemies.
In the end, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey provides a common game that we have grown into over time but also keeps giving players something to look forward to and an adventure that will keep everyone engaged.
