Welcome to the Smackdown Review for October 16, 2018. For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show

Talking Points
1000

The presentation of Smackdown 1000 all night was spectacular. From returning superstars like Evolution and Edge, as well as all the GM’s of the past. Pictures were spread out thought the night of some of the memorable moments of the past. Perhaps the real impact was that Stephanie McMahon, Shane McMahon, and even Vince McMahon all kicked off the show on Truth Tv. The funnest moment of the night was Vince leading the call for a dance break. Vince was never above putting himself out there right with his talent.

Setting the Stage

As Evolution came to the ring, the big question was how Dave Batista would be received. As a pretty big movie star, he was not very well liked when he made his return in the year of Daniel Bryan’s rise. This was not his fault and it was awesome to see that he got a great reaction from the crowd. He acknowledged everything, both good and bad, while also mentioning that Triple H had never beaten him. Nothing came of this, but if these two might meet in in a few months, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Truth

Trying to figure out who Becky Lynch is now has brought out a lot of comparisons. A lot of people thought she was like Steve Austin, but a better match might be Edge. This was pointed out by the Rated R Superstar himself as he took Lynch to task for sacrificing everything for this title. This was one of the most intense promos as Lynch tried to talk back, but you could see that Edge’s words had struck a nerve. Just a compelling segment on a great show.

Match of the Night

Rey Mysterio vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (Mysterio wins by pin fall)

It’s just fantastic to see Ray Mysterio back in the WWE. Shinsuke Nakamura spent the early part of the match to trying to stop the masked man from gaining any type of speed. Rey just comes up with moves you have to see to believe. He slide through the bottom rope and landed on Nakamura in one spot. These two mesh well together and if a rivalry for the US Title comes from this match, I wouldn’t complain.

 Conclusion

The Usos beat AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan. The Miz beat Rusev to gain a spot at Crown Jewel. The New Day lost their belts to the Bar with help from the Big Show.
