In a fantastical adventure, comic book fans everywhere can be excited for the DC Lego Super-Villains release. Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has brought a spin off of the Lego Batman trilogy. Although there are differences, players will get to face off with Superheros from another universe.

Even as an adult, the Lego games are still really fun and exciting. With humor jumping around from character to character, the core game play still remains the same. This time however, players get to customize their own character in order to join the adventure.

As with other Lego games, this action-adventure game features a third-person perspective. Puzzles will need solved and there are many action sequences to get in to. Surprisingly, the plot is pretty in depth since every villain that can be thought of in the DC universe is most likely hiding somewhere in the shadows. The plot in a nutshell however, is that the Justice League has gone missing and another team has been left behind to protect Earth. But these might not be the best heroes. In fact, these new heroes might not be heroes at all. At lest Joker and his crew don’t think so.

Features include the ability to participate in an two player co-op mode, much like the other Lego game such as Pirates of the Caribbean. Combat is now polished and interacts better when it comes to critical hits and defense. Aim is improved but enemies will shield themselves which makes strategy almost a necessity. With the character creator too, your character can be built with abilities and weapons to match what you need to keep fighting through.

For anyone that may be a bit tired of the Lego games due to their redundancy in plot and playstyle, will be happy to know that the characters here break the fourth wall frequently and the comments really dig deep in to comic book lore. Hardcore fans will really enjoy the nods to comic book facts here. If that’s not enough to make you want to give the game a chance, the music and DLC should. An edgier soundtrack plays throughout this time compared to the lighthearted music players have grown accustomed to. The DLC includes some hero characters from various comics such as Beast Boy from Teen Titans, so the chaos gets just better and better.

Overall, the Lego DC Super-Villains game is still exciting and fun. The storyline bring a dark side to the otherwise “nice” set of games. With the constant humor and nods to the original comics, fans can enjoy the game on a deeper level, or just enjoy as a kid that likes the games. The details character customization too is very impressive and helps jump start the creativity that fans already have. Definitely a must play.
