Warm Lamp Games is back at it again with a new release called Beholder 2. This is the second game in the series and focuses on the ministry side of a totalitarian state. The original Beholder was released in 2016 and put players in a tricky situation to work their way up the food chain by being a spy for the government.

While Beholder 2 is still in its beta stages, the game is said to release sometime during the latter half of this year. Tides have turned in this release however because now players get to play as a department officer that can either make the choices necessary to work their way up the ladder and become the Prime Minister or choose to manipulate those around you. Every choice in the game will determine how far you go in the game.

Like the first game, the characters are without much detail and are more like shadows. This brings a unique way to capture the attention of players by almost forcing them to focus on the task at hand and not the character. Details in the backgrounds of the game are ominous and have a foreboding shadow to them which details exactly what type of people you are working for.

Tasks in the game range from checking paperwork, playing mini-games (which Warm Lamp Games is still adding) and spying on those around you. There will be some gore and mature content but this isn’t a happy go lucky game unless you’re winning and working your way up of course.

Much like the first game, decisions drive the game as well as a timer. A lot of tasks are happening at once and you will need to be very inclined to the details that are asked of you. Conversations will be difficult and choices will need to be made. The game has a very specific process which can be difficult to some since one missed opportunity can really change how things end up.

Since the game is still currently taking players for their beta release, there is a lot of information that is missing from this review. If you want to sign up, now is the time. Might as well get a head start on the gameplay so you can critique your decisions before the full release is out. Fans can expect the game to cost around $9.99 USD but this is not determined yet and is based on the original game.  Scoring the game at this time would be unfair as well, so when the full game is released Beholder 2 will be revisited. Happy playing!
