All 90’s kids can now rejoice that one of their favorite games is back and remastered! With the nostalgia of games being remade with better graphics, many generations of today are flocking to play games that they’ve been through time and time again. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy by developers Toys for Bob and publisher Activision is no different, but definitely looks better.
As a huge fan of Spyro and the lovely Sparx, the excitement is real when playing through Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, all of which are “reignited” for this release. Everything seems to be in place as the originals which is somewhat of a letdown, but at the same time is exactly what the game should be. Honestly, there isn’t a need to add anything new but a few new additions would have been nice. For example, a new character, a new ability or maybe a new secret left to find. Sadly, none of these are added.
With the updated graphics that the developers took the time on, the upload of the game is massive and has fans waiting a very long time just to get into the game. Upon actually getting into the game too, nothing had changed. The site of the enemies and items are still all in the same place leaving little to the imagination while playing. On the plus side of this however, the Spyro Trilogy had a lot of fan feedback to remain the same after the release of the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy. So perhaps, fans will get exactly what they want in comparison.
Upon the launch, the launch day patch had to be done, making players wait a little longer to play but the patch was necessary because the patch delivers Ripto’s Rage and Year of the Dragon as downloads. Even with this delay fans should still be happy to revisit the Spyro Trilogy. The grass is detailed, the land is filled with detail on castles and the world itself just seems much more realistic. Graphically, the world could almost be compared to Zelda: Breath of the Wild with the upgrade while still keeping the original fun color palette that is Spyro.
Overall, Spyro Reignited Trilogy looks great from the outside. For anyone that has already played the games before, they will find that the charm is still there and just as fun. Newer players will get to enjoy the environment as well and this release will probably reignite a fandom from younger generations. Despite the large download times, the game is kept in its original state and fans should enjoy the memories that can now be shared. The only thing that would make the game more amazing is the addition of new things, but some games just may not need that upgrade.
