With the recent passing of one of Marvel’s most beloved comic creators, Stan Lee, there is no better way to honor the man than to talk about some of the Funko vinyl pops that were modeled after him. Although these pops have always been highly sought after, now more than ever, collectors want one of the various Stan Lee pops to remember the icon. Most depict some type of role he was a part of, and let’s be honest, he was in many different roles through his career. Below are some pops that capture some of the best and interesting Stan Lee moments.
Most of the pops that feature Stan Lee are related to specific events. Since he was making appearances at the most notable conventions, it made sense to create vinyls specific to each event. They usually feature Stan Lee in his button-up shirt, slacks, and glasses, of course, but each pop shows Stan ripping open his shirt to reveal the logo of the convention that he was at. Many lucky fans as well have gotten these figures signed as well, making them truly one of a kind.
One of the most interesting figures that come to mind, however, is the red superhero pop. This one is uncharacteristic of the line of pops from conventions because it features Stan in a red suit and blue cape. He also has a lightning bolt on his chest as well. This is probably one of the best ways to depict Stan Lee after all of the work he put into the Marvel universe. A blue variant was released where the cape is blue and the suit is gray. Many of these variants are available though for collectors that like metallics figures such as the gold or silver versions. All were available at either New York Comic Con or the LA Comic Con conventions in limited batches.
Although there are many variations of Stan Lee from many different events, the one that best suits how the world feels about his passing has to be the 2014 Wizard World Exclusive vinyl number 01. This is because it features Stan Lee in a traditional white shirt, jeans, and his gold glasses. The best part to this pop is the shirt that is exposed underneath. On the front of his shirt is not a logo per se, but the exclamation, “Excelsior!” Anyone lucky to have it, or to have this pop signed, truly has a piece of history.
