As the end of the year quickly approaches, the award season is in full swing. The Gamers Choice Awards is unique in that all of the winners are 100% chosen by fan votes. The nominees are massive, so we are going to go over some of our choices that we have not covered in previous articles. There will be a link at the bottom so you can vote for your choices as well.
Fan Favorite Celebrity Gamer (Athlete): Austin Creed (AKA Xavier Woods)
Creed and his channel, Up Up Down Down, have crossed WWE and the gaming world and the results have been fantastic. Creed has a genuine love for video games and it shows. Sometimes he will hit up a retro store. Sometimes he will build his own arcade in his house. Sometimes he will interview while playing a game. Woods has something for anyone who loves video games.
Fan Favorite Female Gamer/Streamer: Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys
There are a lot of great female streamers out there, but Pokimane is still the queen. With a personality that allows you to kick back and enjoy a long stream, Imane Anys is one of the most real gamers out there. Her expertise in Fortnight and League of Legends means that this streamer knows how to hang with the best.
Most Anticipated Game: Kingdom Hearts III
2019 is shaping up to be a banner year for games. Everything on this list we want, but the continuing adventures of Sora and the gang has our peak interest. With so many years in between this game and the last, there was a time when we thought we might never play it. We now have a release date and January can not come soon enough.
Fan Favorite Gaming Device: The Switch
By all accounts, The Switch should not have worked. The failure of the Wii U was still fresh in everyone’s mind and now Nintendo was going to create a new system that had a gimmick as it’s selling point? Luckily, the games released have been top notch, Nintendo finally embraced indie games, and the “gimmick” to play your games anywhere was something we all wanted.
Most Desired Franchise Resurrection: EarthBound
A game that many consider to be one of the greatest of all, we want a new game in this series, but are scared if it ever comes out. There was just nothing like it and while Japan did get sequels, North America did not. The biggest question is would Ness and his pals be able to be relevant in modern gaming culture?
Fan Favorite Gaming Convention: PAX (Penny Arcade Expo)
E3 is all about new releases and business. Blizzcon is fantastic if you are dedicated to the company. PAX is special because while there is a lot to do, it is much more laid back. Take a break from the convention floor and take in a panel. Spend some time with a new game. If you go to Seattle, Boston, Melbourne or San Antonio, you are sure to have a good time.
Fan Favorite Gaming Moment: The_Happy_Hob beats the Dark Souls Trilogy without taking a single hit
When we saw this, the first thought was this had to be a lie. No one could beat one of the hardest trilogies ever and never get hit once? Then we saw the footage. Our jaws dropped to the floor. The_Happy_Hob could retire tomorrow and his place in the hall of greats would be assured. Seriously, how did he do it?
Fan Favorite Character of the Year: Connor (Detroit: Become Human)
Even if you never played the game, you knew who Connor (The android sent by Cyberlife) was. From the game to the memes he inspired, Connor was everywhere. Bryan Dechart embraced the role and the fact that he is a damn good actor brought the right amount of weight to the role.
There are many, many other categories. Vote for your favorites and then check out who won on CBS on December 9 at 5-6 PM EST.
