Rico Rodriguez is back in Just Cause 4 by Square Enix and developers Avalanche Studios. With a new plot and new area to explore, some players will either love this open-world action adventure game or possibly get bored. Although the game has some major fun moments, players of the other games could see this release as repetitive.
This time around, Rico is in Solis, a fictional South American country. His task is to take on The Black Hand run by Gabriella Morales, a new addition to the cast. Upon finding out that his late father was a part of The Black Hand, Rico sets off to find more answers.
Although the plot gives players much to work on, there is always the open-world section to the game which is just plain fun. Since Rico is equipped with a myriad of weapons, there is a lot of damage that can be done. From blowing up buildings to taking down helicopters with grappling hooks, the chaos almost supersedes the story. Most players will probably just get in and be very involved with the story but stepping off the grid to use all of your weapons is just as satisfying.
For those looking to stay closer to the storyline, the developers worked on Just Cause 4 to improve the AI so that players would have tougher enemies. But that isn’t the only thing they did. Avalanche Studios also added in realistic weather conditions to battle against as well such as sandstorms, tornadoes, and blizzards, all of which affect gameplay. Smaller additions include new updates to the physics of the game and new animations.
Even though the improvements and additions focus more on the background issues of Just Cause 4, the game still looks fantastic and now plays even better. There are no drastic control issues when aiming weapons, the camera moves smoothly and the environment is very engaging. In the grand scheme, there really isn’t anything wrong with the game the stands out.
Whether you play to explore the open-world environment and cause chaos, or if you play to enjoy the plot, Just Cause 4 has a lot to offer. With no major issues going on in the game, the only thing left to question is where Rico will go and what will he discover in the next game.
