The Blackout Club by developer Question released a very well received game at the end of October and brings an interesting storyline to players. In a neighborhood that seems pretty normal, small and quiet, people are mysteriously waking up in places they shouldn’t be. Players can now play as a team to get to the bottom of the mystery while trying to piece together what exactly is going on.

Labeled as a horror game and released as an early access preview, The Blackout Club comes with some age restrictions due to some violence and minor gore. Not to worry, however, the game is still very immersive without being too violent. Centered around a group of teenagers that are aware that something is happening ever night, their friend has gone missing and some very bad people have taken up residence, they set out to capture some type of proof since adults don’t believe anything is happening.

With tools in hand such as noisemakers, grappling hooks and drones these teens must be prepared to get around and outsmart the adults they come across. The environment is set in a modern day neighborhood but there is a lot more. Tunnels and other areas are laid out around the town too and everything must be explored. Be aware though because procedural elements will keep the game changing.

Players can jump in and out of co-op gameplay to explore together which is both good and bad at times. The downside to this is work still needs to be done within the groups mostly because players are able to harass others. Developers however have been extremely good at listening to any and all concerns to fix any issues. Other problems fall more in to the category of slow connections or players leaving the group and leaving others to continue the adventure without the help they need. Overall, no major problems though.

At first the landscape was repetitive. This was due to the game not being a full release yet but now that more time has passed, the map is a lot larger and the enemies are more diverse. With a good map, a comforting and familiar setting, the game is sure to be spooky when the teens all come across the cause behind these mysterious blackouts. This game works in early access. Imagine when the full release comes out.
