Since the night of the 28th, people stood in line to get their copy of Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts III, while everyone else got their copy on the official release date of January 29th. Ever since that moment people have blasted memes everywhere stating they will not be able to be contacted because they will be locked in their rooms playing non-stop. Can’t blame them there, the game is worth ignoring the world for. Plus, we’ve all been waiting 13 years to finally get the end to this story.
In the beginning, Sora was destined to put the worlds back together when the battle between dark and light became the highlight of Kingdom Hearts. Since then, the story has been deep, somewhat confusing at times, and filled with a lot of love for friends and doing what’s right. Now, we have Organization 13 preparing for their final move in order to ignite a second Keyblade War.
Upon entering the game and completely being stuck to the intro and the path so far reel, the feelings of happiness and turmoil were all in one. Not only does the game look absolutely stunning, but it was like reliving my childhood and knowing the story will have to come to an end. Compared to the previous games, which all looked impressive, the third release added so much more detail to clothing and character models. This just made me feel like I was one step closer to actually being a part of these imagined worlds.
As always too, the music is fantastic. Hikaru Utada came back yet again to sing the opening song “Face My Fears,” which really brings a specific tone to the game and the direction. Donald, Goofy and Sora are all back to regain Sora’s power and face his fears perhaps. This time around the music to each area isn’t the annoyingly happy repetitive music from Traverse Town which is a relief
Battling is mostly the same as the other console games where it’s mostly button smashing but now the addition of “flomotion” and wall running makes for some very interesting battles. Swinging from poles and jumping in the air is a rush. You can customize specific abilities to aid these moves but for new players, these moves might take a little while to grasp, so it pays to take the time to test the moves when prompted. The camera during the battles is well adjusted and easy to use. During a fight just hit R3 to recenter. You’ll want to do this a bit because the enemies are generally moving slightly out of view. When charged up, Sora and the guys can now use a team attack including the new “Attraction Flo” where Disney rides show up to help you fight the tough enemies.
After waiting so very long to get to this part of the story, there is nothing but sheer happiness playing it. Kingdom Hearts III is not only a fun family-friendly game but is also a part of my own childhood and adulthood. Nothing has stuck out as a problem while playing the game and the challenges are well balanced, so calling that a problem would be wrong. We’re all finally getting the game we’ve desired and hopefully, the end will be everything we could hope for. So here’s to the gamers getting back into the game and living there a while!
