As the third installment in the series, God Eater 3 from Marvelous First Studio and Bandai Namco Entertainment are possibly falling short in keeping the audience entertained. Perhaps out-shadowed by other games, this standard hack and slash game leaves something to be desired.
You, the player are the God Eater and are tasked with fighting Aragami, which are massive monsters. As a monster hunter so to speak, the ability to collect energy from such fights can be quite helpful. Energy bursts can be used to inflict a lot of damage to your enemy. The weapons transform into guns and during battle, AI assists in the fight. Other options in the game include a four-player co-op and assault modes can have up to eight players.
So, imagine Monster Hunter World and Devil May Cry combined. This is the feeling you will get with the game. Movements are very quick, combo attacks are rewarded and frequently used. The RPG itself is great and the story is enthralling enough to keep players involved. Environments look great compared to previous releases that were made for the PS Vita.
Problems only come in when things get repetitive. God Eater 3 isn’t re-creating the wheel when it comes to making a new genre of game and that’s fine, but it’s the repetitive farming that gets old fast. Not only this but reused environments tend to get confusing and somewhat old visually. There seems to be a break between the story and the action in these ways. Anyone that tunes in to the audio aspect of games will also notice that the tunes are repetitive as well. All of these things tend to break players out of the game.
Overall, God Eater 3 is still a very likable game. With the history of the game and the ability to actually play it now on every system, the game really expands into something more fantastical. Even with repetitive issues, the story is still engaging and this is a game people should still want to play.
