Dawn of Man got attention when Madruga Works debuted their game at the beginning of March. Set from Stone Age to the Iron Age, players lead the human race through time. Survival is first among this simulation city-builder. Create a place to live and get to work thriving.
First of all, this game is not fast paced. Let’s say, Dawn of Man is comparable to Civilization. The game takes time to accomplish creating a proper city and a lot of time to get through the whole timeline. No chariots are involved sadly, but this game or more a look into prehistoric life.
At first appearance, Dawn of Man is very nice to look at. Each person has nice detail and so does the environment. There are no cartoony characters here that might throw off the atmosphere. Set in a third-person camera, you watch all of your people scurrying about hunting, gathering, fighting, and building. A lot of grinding will be required in order to keep your supplies up to feed all of your people. A fair amount of time will be spent just making sure everyone has their tasks and headed in the right direction.
For some people, the slow pace of the game can be frustrating and like watching paint dry. Others, however, that enjoy the management aspect, will start to see the little things in the game. For example, with the release being new, there are some flaws in the game. If you haven’t put more than a couple of hours into the game then this may be missed. Luckily the dev team has been very responsive to feedback. There is no day and night system in the game currently and some of the village characters may or may not completely follow through with their tasks, causing a balance issue. Some recent patches have been that will hopefully fix these little things but the team is open to whatever feedback you have.
Overall, Dawn of Man is a good game to use to look in to the possible paths of the past. Build villages, grow crops, hunt, even build shrines of some sort. What you do is up to you but the work will have to be put in to see anything grow. There’s more to this game then just hitting the fast forward button. Upon reaching the end, players should feel rewarded for their hard work.
