Welcome to the Smackdown review for April 2, 2019. Since it’s Wrestlemania week, we are going to change it up a bit and do some thoughts on the last Smackdown before the show.
-Kevin Owens is a great wrestler. He is also a great charcter which makes him hosting his show still mean something.
-Randy Orton and AJ Styles going after each other was awesome. Best lines were “All the time here, and you learned one move” from Styles and “Since Cena went Hollywood, you took his place as the corporate b%^&$” from Orton.
-Orton hit an RKO while Styles was going for the Phenomenal Forearm. This was the spot I thought would happen at Wrestlemania. Hope they have something to top it. -Bliss putting the Uso’s in a Fatal Four-way is great for two reasons. The championship needs to be defended at Mania. The other is that it shows the McMahon family wants retribution for the Uso’s sacrifice last week.
-The Miz plugged his show and still did it as a babyface. That my friend is called skill.
-Shane making the Greg Hamilton announce him in spectacular fashion should not gain heat, but damn it works every time.
-Great to see Sanity on television.
-Strange side note: Xavier Woods said in a recent Up Up Down Down video that his misses backstage brawls. The Miz and Sanity end up in one.
-Becky Lynch arrives chauffeured in a cop car. You think The Man and the police would not be on the best terms.
-Corey Graves gets to do the interview in the ring. Nice change of pace. -She might dress and act like Stone Cold, but Lynch is taking a page from The People’ Champion playbook. Address the people.
-Lynch looks generally ecstatic. You can tell this means a lot to her. -An 18 Mixed Tag Team match?! Has that ever happened before?
-They showed everyone’s entrances. That’s cool. No rapping from R-Truth tho.
-Things break down and everyone starts hitting everyone else. Otis tries to romance Mandy Rose. Nikki Cross attacks Shelton Benjamin. Askua attacks EC3 and throws Jeff Hardy over the top rope.
-Why do I get this weird feeling that WWE is moving toward inter-gender wrestling?
-Ali vs Samoa Joe. Joe is going to his first Wrestlemania which is almost unbelievable.
-Michael Cole is on Smackdown. The brand split means nothing.
-I am so nervous for this contact signing. This story-line makes me think a swerve is coming. -The crowd is going CRAZY for Kofi. Non stop chanting. Bryan has to power through it. He is dropping some truth however.
-That chant is not PG.
-“You deserve it.”
-Kofi says this is just like the Yes Movement, but this time Bryan is the one who gets beat. Powerful stuff.
Conclusion
Bring on Wrestlemania
