Welcome to the Smackdown Review for May 7, 2019 For both this and Raw, I will go over what the big talking points were, pick the match of the night, and look ahead to the next show
Talking Points
One Good Turn
The wild card rule means that anyone could show up at any time. AJ Styles made good on his threat to come to the blue brand. He was followed by Sami Zayn, who berated the crowd. Kofi and Woods came out and Kofi was the one doing most of the talking. He challenged both Styles and Zayn for a shot at the WWE Championship. The match would become a triple threat. Good to see Kofi taking more of the reins since becoming champion.
New Champions
Shane Mcmahon came out to crown the new Tag Team Champions. Smart money was on Elias and himself. Shane threw a curve by annotating Daniel Bryan and Rowan the new champs. This brought out the Usos, who challenged for the right to hold the belts. The match that followed was high flying and ended with Bryan and Rowan getting the pin. Bryan and Rowan are an interesting choice, and I like the fact they had to fight to get the belts.
The Interruption
Shane also had an announcement about Money in the Bank. After talking about what a grueling match it was, he was interrupted by a hell bent Miz, who proceeded to continue his attack. The B-Team helped Shane get the upper hand. This might be nothing, just a way to have Shane get attacked, but I’m wondering what he was going to say. It seems he was going to make some sort of stipulation. Again, maybe much ado about nothing, but still…
Match of the Night
Kofi vs. AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn (Kofi wins by pinfall)
I suddenly get why the wild card stipulation could be a lot of fun. You get matches like this which seem like they could be on a house show, but for real stakes. Kofi is showing day after day why he deserves the belt he has. Styles is inching closer and closer to a turn. Zayn is showing why his promos are just part of the whole package.
Conclusion
Ali and Andrade were attacked by Randy Orton. Kari Sane and Askua look to challenge Mandy Rose and Sonya Devill after the later beat Carmella and Ember Moon. Lars attacked Matt Hardy and R-Truth. https://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown
