Welcome to the Raw review for May 27, 2019. For this and Smackdown, I will go over the talking points and pick the match of the night.
Broken
The question was not who Brock Lesnar would cash in on, as he teased cashing in on both Rollins and Kingston. The question was what has happened to Dolph Ziggler. Attacking Kofi again from behind, Ziggler was run off by Woods. He returned and talked about how he didn’t want to take Kofi’s belt, but that it should have been him. This was fascinating, as Ziggler switched from almost crying to fury. A fascinating character choice and one that I hope sticks around a bit longer.
Corbin
AJ Styles was out with an injury, so Baron Corbin took his place in a match against Miz, Bobby Lashley and Brawn Strowman. The winner would challenge Rollins for the Universal title. The fight was chaotic, hitting it’s stride with a tower of doom move with all four men. Lashley and Strowman fought out of the arena and it was down to Corbin and Miz. Miz was the better fighter, but Corbin hit End of Days at the right moment. Corbin is a good challenger, but Miz’s time will come.
The Fiend
Who was the masked creature we met on Fire Fly Funhouse a few weeks ago. Wyatt finally told us he was the The Fiend, a mask he uses to gain confidence. The show was more children’s show, with Wyatt dressing up as a doctor at one point. Some interesting lore was dropped. Abbey said she wants to rest and that this place is limbo. A very frightening idea has occurred to me. What if this is all happening just in Wyatt’s head?
Match of the Night
Ricochet vs. Cesaro (Ricochet wins by pinfall)
Cesaro got some new music and entrance video, but he is still one of the best in the business. Ricochet is having a breakout year on the Red brand. Put these two together again and magic happens. This match was short, so much so that an Iron Man or best of series is an absolute must. Just one of the best Raw matches in a long time.
Conclusion
Shane beat Lance Anoa’i. Becky Lynch and Nikki Cross beat the Icconics. Zayn fell to Rollins. AEW was mentioned by Sami Zayn.
