The frozen landscape of Icenaire has been cursed by The King of Shades. Evelia Lyric, daughter of Nicolau Lyric, is the only person who can enter with the help of the Vambrace to defeat The King of Shades. All hope rests on her shoulders and it is the players job to make sure she succeeds.
With inspiration from Elder Scrolls, Castlevania, and Darkest Dungeon, this dark fantasy is filled with a compelling story and interesting game play.
The game starts with some locals from Icenaire finding Evelia Lyric in the snow, out cold (no pun intended). They bring her back to their village but keep her in the prison for their own protection. When she awakes, she is questioned by a guard on how she was able to slip through the ice as no one has been in or out since the ice wall went up.
Evelia is eventually permitted to leave the prison but stay on grounds for more questioning, she meets Isabel Salazar on the way out, who is known for having a silver tongue and to be a very powerful sorceress. Right after she leaves, Isabel escapes the prison. It is then up to Evelia to put a group together to find her. All of Edena is depending on Evelia to defeat all that stands in her way and The King of Shades and hopefully find what her father put her on this path for.
Thoughts
The play style isn’t exactly what I would have chosen for this game but I find the story to be well-fleshed out and intriguing. The level of history within this game reminds me a lot of the lore in Dragon Age: the religion, wraiths and the armies that The King of Shade amasses. There is also a hint of anime-esque design with the characters which gives this an almost Final Fantasy vibe.
I have played games within the app Episode that have similar control techniques, dialogue but it also mirrors fighting design like The Walking Dead: Road to Survival. It isn’t my favorite platform to play but I feel like with the story, Vambrace cold Soul has a lot of potential to go beyond app-styled game play and turn into a full-fledged, open world game.
