Back in March we did a recap of Season 1 of Aggrestuko…well season 2 is finally streaming on Netflix! Will Retsuko put down the microphone? Will she find love? Will she punch Tonn in the face? Read more to find out!
The aggressive, heavy metal red panda Retsuko is still working her 9-5 job with no prospect of doing anything else. That is until her mother starts bugging the living hell out of her. She is 25 and to her mother that is about the time that a woman should think about marriage. We know from the first season that she decided this was a bust.
Her mother decides to play matchmaker and find a suitable man for her, even with Retsuko begging her not to. She is reluctant but agrees to go on these dates, what she does find is that her mom does a little too much Photoshop and ends up on dates with people not quite pictured. Before her mom sets her up on another date, she says that she can’t because she is learning to drive. It isn’t what Retsuko intended to do but it was the only excuse that got her mother off her back.
Director Gori and Washimi are back this season and are planning a girls trip with Retsuko so they can get away from all the corporate work that is being piled on. The trip is more for Retsuko’s sake than Washimi and Gori as she has been training a new employee who doesn’t appreciate her management style. Life never stops being difficult for Retsuko but she never runs out of things to sing/scream about.
Retsuko ends up meeting someone at the driving school, a lazy donkey named Tadano. He is very cavalier about getting his license but nonetheless, Retsuko enjoys his company while waiting for the next driving class. They talk about her work and whether or not Tadano will get back into working or not.
The two eventually date, but there is more to Tadano than meets the eye. I will leave that up to the readers to decipher if they hadn’t watched the show already.
This season was awesome to watch as I got to see Retsuko grow as a character and become stronger at voicing her opinions. We also see more in-depth character analysis with her co-workers that weren’t shown in the first season. There are some sad moments while watching but I guarantee it is worth the watch!
10/10
