Welcome to the Smackdown review for July 23, 2019.

Story Progression

Shane McMahon addressed Kevin Owens. In a series of social media posts, Owens wanted to fight Shane and Summerslam. He even promised to quit if Shane beat him. Shane accepted the match and he wants Owens to put it in writing. Owens was ready for a fight tonight, but Shane wanted to put some obstacles in his way. He booked Owens against Roman Reigns with McIntyre as the special referee, Elias as the timekeeper, and himself as the announcer. Somewhere, Mr McMahon is nodding in approval.

Kofi Kingston addressed who would face him at Summerslam. He chose Randy Orton ad the Viper came to the ring. What happened next was sorta refreshing, no sneak attacks or made up reason for the feud. Just a walk down memory lane with Orton telling Kofi that he owed Orton for injuring Ali so Kofi got his spot. In the end Orton and Kofi could be awesome as their styles mesh well.

Surprise

Xavier Woods and Big E were on commentary for the first hour of night and they were a treat from start to finish. From Big E mentioning he was stronger then Crews, to Woods justifying Moon’s attack on Bayley, to both men singing “Sexy Boy” as Shawn Michaels came to the ring, they just gave it there all.  Tom Phillips and David Otunga were trying not to laugh through the entire show. Well done gentleman.
