Halloween is almost here (but who’s counting). I am of course and one of the most looked at games recently is the release of Friday the 13th on the Nintendo Switch. That’s right, Gun Media, Illfonic and Black Tower Studios have finally made it to the hallowed halls of Nintendo. You don’t have to be a huge horror fan to enjoy this game and you don’t have to be a Nintendo enthusiast either, but Nintendo is changing the game by allowing more mature games on their family-friendly based platform.
With the addition of new maps to the game, players get to enjoy new variety from the first to the fifth movies. This includes Camp Crystal lake and The Jarvis House to name a couple. Otherwise, the game is still the same. Gather your friends and play as a team against the chosen player Jason Voorhees. The Switch allows playtime on the tv, with the Joy Con controls or personally with the whole unit. Up to eight people can play but the story remains the same, escape and survive.
This release of Friday the 13th is not different but it does feel like a first for the Nintendo platform. The movies have never been rated PG and so the game surely isn’t either. In this version, there is a lot of gore, violence, some nudity, and language. So of course, the game has an M for Mature rating. Maybe with the addition of this game to the ever-growing network of games on the e-store, we will all start to see our favorite games no matter their rating or original platform.
Compared to older Nintendo where the games were pretty strict on being family-friendly, Nintendo has really opened up to be more inclusive. Friday the 13th is a fun game with a large following and Nintendo has made a statement by giving players the ability to play on the go and by supporting independent developers too. From an outside perspective, the collection of new genres on the Switch feels pretty amazing. There is a one-stop-shop suddenly and as the company grows it could be possible that gaming could become one large collection of entertainment. This doesn’t mean we would have to leave consoles and the PC behind, it just means we could potentially be connected through one platform no matter the gaming style.
Now that Friday the 13th is out, get your minds ready to be blown and enjoy the new map additions. Consider too, what else you can find on the Nintendo Switch that wouldn’t have normally be there. It’s possible you could find something else to play too.
Available on PS4, Xbox, PC and Switch
