In a time where games are constantly trying to recreate the wheel, Gunfire Games and Perfect World Entertainment may have found a way to bring their game, Remnant: From the Ashes to a good medium with a fresh feel. As post-apocalyptic games stay popular, more and more storylines emerge. The main goal is to survive, but similar games have not been constructed quite like this. In a broad perspective, it can be possible that the game they have created has combined more thing than just a normal survival game.
Remnant: From the Ashes has a pretty stable plotline at first. The world is in chaos and ruin. Evil creatures have come to destroy everything. You are one of the last remnants able to restore humanity. Here’s where things get weird, what’s left of humanity, they get to use the technology they already have to access different lands, creatures, survival items and more. The only way to do that is to grab your weapon and start killing.
This is where my realistic brain comes in, you’re in a world that has been destroyed, yet, you have technology capable of traveling to different worlds? But I digress. The concept is actually quite neat. There are four different worlds to see and with it comes different creatures. Some look like they’ve stepped out of WOW, while others look SciFi. So no matter what you’re into, there is bound to be something you like. When it comes to battle and survival, there are items scattered about to use to craft with. Build and change your weapons the way you want and prepare to face some very difficult bosses. As you work your way through, be prepared to ask for some back up and get a team. You can play with two other players and at times, this seems to be the only way to win.
Every game has that beginning point where things don’t go as planned and this makes the “winning” part hard to see. In some cases, the battle in-game was a bit wacky and shots didn’t seem to hit as hard as I would have liked. In other cases, the game crashed or just kind of froze. It appears however that the developers have worked on this and the gameplay is much better now. One of the things they didn’t have to fix was their environments. Visually the game looks fantastic.
If you are a fan of any of the Dark Souls games then it’s very probable that you will like this game. There is a lot of smashing and fighting but the adventure of going from place to place is just as entertaining. One thing to know though, Remnants: From the Ashes has a general Mature rating so it won’t be for everyone. Parents should probably check this one out first to determine if the kids can play.
Overall, Remnants: From the Ashes has a combination of different themes, different ever-changing environments, and a great story. This game isn’t a total one of a kind, but it is super close. There is a fresh feeling to this game that isn’t found everywhere else.
