This episode is inspired by Daughters’ Day but it is a dark twist on the event. What takes place in the episode is truly bizarre, and it isn’t because of Lilith.
This episode is based around the archaic notion that a woman’s body is not her own and is the property of their father. Our protagonist is Shay, a young girl who is attending the purity ball that her father is having her go to. He had been taking his first born daughter, and now that he has gotten in contact with Shay, he wants to share those same traditions. Or so it would seem.
Shay never had a father growing up, so she is doing what she can to stay on her father’s good side, including going to a chastity event where daughters vow their virginity to their fathers until they marry. I wish I could say this event is fiction, but unfortunately this is a practice that is still happening today.
Once the girls get acclimated to their living arrangements they sneak out at night to meet up with some boys that Shay’s sister knew from the previous year. It was here that they decide to summon Lilith to save them from their weird fathers expectations.
The season finale episode was the best I have seen so far. It touches on a very problematic practice while being original with its story. I am interested to learn more about the history of Lilith after watching this episode and I think others will enjoy (albeit be disturbed) this episode.
