There are more vaults to discover in Borderlands 3. Gearbox Software and 2K continue to bring the madness all across the galaxy. The game keeps the mechanics of the first 3 main games while also adding the ability to finally see other planets. The game is loud, fast and fun. It’s only weakness is the choice of villains.
The Crimson Raiders have been left almost destitute. The Children of the Vault have set their sights on getting all the vaults in the universe. Lilith sends four new recruits to secure these vaults before the COV does. It will take them to different planets, meeting new and old faces. The COV is never far behind and the Crimson Raiders must find a way to take them down for good.
Borderlands 3 is simply on the surface. Kill a lot of enemies and gain loot. Weapons have always been a big part of the experience and this game is no different. Things get heavy as waves and waves of enemies attacks. Slag has been replaced by radiation. Foes take more damage as before, but also are hurt by the radiation itself. the game takes into account player’s levels and changes the foes’ difficulty to match. This is great when playing with friends, as the game does not become to hard or easy.
After you beat the game, new modes allow you to experience Borderlands 3 in a new way. Circles of Slaughter has you face off against waves and waves of enemies. True Hunter Mode has you play the game again. The good news is your character keeps their level. The bad is that the foes become stronger. One of the best features is that doing challenges in Borderlands 3 gets you better loot. It provides the best incentive.
The only problem, and it is a small one, with Borderlands 3 are the villains. Troy and Tyreen Calypso have an impressive army and some major power, but I saw them as mere annoyances then threats. Their motivation is fine, but after fighting Handsome Jack, these two seem a little thin. Things pick up near the second half, as they have a relationship with another character and an old foe comes back.
Borderlands 3 made the smart move to take the action off Pandora. The developers could have stayed, but they have created such an interesting world that it was pleasure to see more of it. The jokes are still juvenile (that’s a compliment) and the world looks beautiful as always.
