Welcome to the review of AEW’s first network show. For the first night of Dynamite, we are going to do a little running diary.
The opening is just awesome. The colors and song just make things pop. It’s great to hear Jim Ross again. I am not familiar with Excalibur. The crowd is ready to go.
The honor of being the first match ever on Dynamite goes to Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara. AEW brought the pyro as well.
You gotta feel for Cody. He takes a huge risk and now gets to see the rewards of his gamble. He soaks it all in.
Sammy can fly. He is bouncing all over the place. Backflipping and front flipping.
Cody hits a beautiful springboard Cutter. The announce team mentions that there is a time limit for the match.
Cody dives through the ropes, but Sammy pulls Brandi into the line of fire.
Cody hits a top rope reverse suplex, but only gets a two count. Sammy responds with a Spainish Fly.
Sammy tries a top rope Shooting Star Press, but Cody gets his knees up. Cody pins him. Cody is crying. Sammy shakes his hand, but it is a distraction to let Jericho attack him.
Jericho keeps up the attack all through the commercials until the show comes back.
The next match is Brandon Cutler vs. MJF. Maxwell has some burns just like his Twitter account.
Watch your mouth about D&D, Maxwell.
Cuttler falls from the top rope, hard to say if it was on purpose. Maxwell locks in Salt of the Earth and Cutler is forced to tap.
Jay and Silent Bob are at ringside. The Hyper Two get into a verbal spat with them. Private Party breaks things up.
SCU hypes the Tag Team Tournament starting next week. The Lucha Brothers interrupt.
Hangman Paige vs. Pac is next. This was originally a main event pay-per-view match we now get for free.
Earl Hebner is the referee. That makes me very happy.
Paige and Pac are tearing it up. Just some hard hitting action. Pac hits a running kick to Paige in the corner that looks like Paige owed him money.
Paige hits a moonsault on Pac on the floor. Paige jumped an unbelievable amount to hit Pac.
After a Black Arrow, Pac puts on the Brutalizer and Earl calls for the bell. Best match of the night so far.
Brit Baker joins the commentary booth for the AEW Women’s Championship match. It is Nyla Rose vs. Riho
Riho bridges out of a pin by Rose. That’s impressive.
Rose catches a diving Riho and does a back breaker. Rose tries to dive on Riho and lands on a pile of chairs.
A couple of great near falls. Riho hits a suplex from the top rope. She hits a double knee to get the pin and the belt. Rose attacks after the match. Omega steps in to help Riho.
Main Event time. The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho and Santana and Ortiz.
Jericho tries to put Walls of Jericho on Omega and gets taken to a Superkick party. Omega is attacked by John Moxley. This does not count as a DQ.
The match in the ring continues as Moxley and Omega battle outside. Moxley drives Omega through a glass table.
Santana and Ortiz hit an impressive series of double team moves on Matt. They move as one it seems.
Matt and Nick make a valiant try, but the number game is too much. Jericho gets the pin for his team. Cody comes out followed by Sammy. Dustin Runnels comes out, but is attacked by Jack (Swagger) Hagar. Jack takes out everyone. Red Hot finish.
Final Thoughts: Great first show. Can’t wait to see where it goes.
