You get to choose your path of destruction in John Wick: Hex. Created by Bithell Games and Good Shepherd, this game has only one goal. To replicate the feel of the action scenes from the movies. There are a lot of people that you need to go through. This is not as simple as just shooting. The game requires you to think about what moves you need to make and when to make them.
Hex is set before the movies so no worries about dogs. Winston and Charon from the Continental have been taken by a mysterious man named Hex. He taunts John Wick, saying if he wants to rescue them, he must fight his way through Chinatown and beyond. This puts Wick into conflict with Edgar Wu and his associates. Wick will have to discover what Hex wants and why he has been targeted.
Hex is not a first person shooter. This might surprise people as John Wick has always been about the action. The developers wanted to capture how the fight scenes in the movies are portrayed. You are given a timeline in which you have to choose what action you are going to take. Ever move takes up time. Taking out the two enemies to your left might seem like the right move, but it might leave you open to one on the right. Choose when to attack and when to take cover.
You also do not have unlimited ammo. You can pick up guns dropped by enemies. There are some small touches that make Hex work. When you reload, you lose any ammo that was in the original clip. Wick also shoots twice every time. The cell shading look makes it feel like a comic book. The story is not very deep, but the game is all about the fight sequence. Once you beat a level, you can play it back with no stops.
John Wick: Hex is a fun and challenging game that makes you think about what you need to do. The game gets harder as you progress. the high score is determined by how many hits you took, the amount of time took to beat the level, ect. If you came for the fights, you will not be disappointed. If nothing else, it will tide you over until the next movie.
