This seasons version of Thanksgiving goes back to the original pilgrims landing after a long journey…but in modern day. A family invites what they think are actors into their home to recreate the first Thanksgiving.
The Baker’s are a family with their own set of problems. Cody, the oldest and the only daughter clashes with her stepmother Anna on a daily basis. She’s a teenager in that rebellious phase in life, so that is to be expected. Anna tells the family that she has hired actors to recreate the first Thanksgiving as a way to entertain and bring the family closer together. It is during this meal that Cody makes a wish after breaking a wishbone with her brother Tate, that she wants this whole thing to blow up in her stepmothers face.
What comes next is two actors who don’t seem to break character and are very enthused about joining this family for their first Thanksgiving. It turns very dark fast after they have moved a group of pilgrims into their house and have built a strange hut by the pool. They have killed people close to the family and have taken them hostage in their own home to teach them how to be grateful for what they have.
While it is an interesting take on Thanksgiving, I don’t feel as connected with the characters in the show. I tend to sympathize with the characters if there is depth, but it doesn’t feel finished. It has gore and certain twists that I enjoyed but I think that it needs to be more fleshed out (so to speak).
