First off, how adorable are Krystle and Amie in their cosplay outfits? And second, did Will Arnett pull a Saw moment on us with his tricycle? Neither of these have anything to do with this week’s challenge, the “Cut in Half Challenge.” Ok, so maybe the bike does, because Will likes to do weird stuff. After sawing the bike in half, he revealed that the challenge this week is to build the other half of the objects put on display.
Unlike the other challenges so far, this week the teams are only working on 12 hours of time, which makes sense since half of the projects are already made. Teams got to choose from half of a piñata, half of a fire hydrant, half of a computer, a clock, a diver’s helmet, a guitar and a globe. All of the choices seemed pretty awesome and everyone kind of had ideas of what they wanted to do. The goal for this one was to create a piece of art, a story. For some, this seemed easier than it actually was. While others had a tough beginning but ended up finishing strong.
As teams got started, the Lego Masters made their way around to each station trying to get the overall concept for everyone’s work. Surprisingly, this time, Tyler and Amy didn’t keep their concept a secret. With some friendly competition (mostly) Amy made the observation that suddenly a lot of concepts had tentacles like the display they had built as a surprise for last week’s challenge. Burn.
Halfway through the Lego Masters come around to judge projects early to separate the top artists from the bottom artists to show who is in the top teams versus the bottom teams.
Top 5
Richard and Flynn
Aron and Christian
Tyler and Amy
Mel and Jermaine
Sam and Jessica
Bottom 4
Everyone else. They get a pep talk “time out.”
A pep talk could be a real game changer for the teams to come back and work harder in their last 6 hours in order to possibly build their way to the top team. No one wants to be singled out, but the result can really surprise you. Will Arnett felt like he was a good motivator, and this is probably the first time we’ve seen him be completely serious about wanting the teams to do their best job possible. Without the funny jabs.
When all is said and done and presentations are being brought to the table. Last week was full of tears and stress but this week was completely different. Here are your final top two and bottom two teams.
Top two: Sam and Jessica (fire hydrant)
Richard and Flynn (cuckoo clock)
à Winner: Richard and Flynn
Bottom two: Corey and Travis (piñata)
Amie and Krystle (globe)
à Going Home: Corey and Travis
Also, compared to last week’s competition, can I just stop and say that Sam and Jessica really turned their team around? To be so mean to each other and then make a comeback to be in the top 2 this week was incredible to watch. They may have finally figured out what needs to be done as far as stress management and clear communication with their ideas and execution. Surprisingly, this is a team I would actually like to see around. Maybe we could all take some lessons from this. Good for them!
Corey and Travis worked extremely hard and had a good idea in mind to build their Piñata car, but the execution just didn’t land. They needed more time but that just wasn’t going to happen. The brothers really looked out for each other and were given high praises from the Lego Masters, unfortunately it just was their time to go. I think we all would have liked to see what else they may have made in the future. Luckily, they handled it in stride and will likely keep building in their futures. Now it’s on to next week and the next big challenge.
Next week: Make a Movie
