What happens when you take two WWE Superstars and give them control of Smackdown and Raw? The answer is some of the funnest and entertaining content on YouTube. Up Up Down Down gives you Battle of the Brands, a weekly showdown between Tyler Breeze and Austin Creed. The boys try to win the hearts of the audience and crush each other in the ultimate battle of brand supremacy.
The video game they are playing is Raw vs. Smackdown 2006. Aside form story mode and matches, the game has GM mode. In this, a player creates weekly shows on the brand of their choice. You pick the matches, choose the stipulations and try to earn more audience members then the rival show. There is more then just having weekly Hell in a Cell matches. You have a set amount of money, rivalries must be built, superstars can get injured or becomes dissatisfied with their role. To properly play the game, you have to think what your next move will be.
I will admit when I played this game many years ago, I looked at GM mode for about two minutes. In then hands of Breeze (Raw) and Woods (Smackdown), this weekly show has become appointment viewing. Given a set time limit and with the other not watching, they have to create a show that will beat each other. after both finsh, they simulate ( “SIM-A-LATE”) and see who won that week. During all this, the boys will joke, talk smack to each other and tell stories. Sometimes a special guest will show up and some big matches, the boys will actually watch the entire match to see who will win.
Things get interesting, and heated, as superstars want to change shows or contracts start to expire. The time limit really makes Woods and Breeze hustle. Because of this, sometimes something gets missed. This can lead to freak-outs and shouting matches. It’s all in good fun and you will become addicted to seeing how the battles play out.
Season two has added a few new things to the formula. New rules are in place in regards to legends and how many each show can have. Woods also put in a lot of the current roster so familiar faces are now in the mix. The best addition is live action promos. Sometimes, the action on screen will freeze and a promo video will appear. Ever wonder what Renee Young would say to Sonya Deville right before their Iron Woman match? What dastardly deed led to Drew Gulak to seek revenge on Drake Maverick? They are totally in character and show a different side of your favorite Superstars.
Up Up Down Down Battle of the Brands is for everyone. Fans of WWE will love this fantasy booking and gamers will love the chess match that takes place. It is funny and you will become addicted very quickly. If there is one downside, it will make you wish you had the game so you can fully explore GM mode for yourself.
