It’s amazing what could be if things were just a little different – if an item, object or experience played out in a way that changed the entire dynamic of civilization as we know it. Sega’s “Sakura Wars” series doesn’t just dip its toe into the probable, it literally reinvents history with a story set during the Japanese Taisho period where steam became the primary source of power instead of electricity. Not only that, but the greatest threat known to man during a time of eventual World Wars in reality is actually demons. Using the cover of a theater troupe looking to make the people of Japan forget about their unpredictable troubles, the Japanese government’s “Flower Division” suit up and use steam-powered mechas to thwart any demonic enemies. After multiple games, “Sakura Wars” has made it to western shores for only the second time with a soft reboot focusing on the events following “The Great Demon War” set in 1940. It’s time for the lights to shine their brightest as we enter stage left with some first impressions of the Playstation 4 exclusive “Sakura Wars”.
