October usually has my favorite games. I love the spooky and creepy stuff and Stormind Games just released the sequel to Remothered: Tormented Fathers, Remothered: Broken Porcelain .A lot of people were not expecting a sequel or a release so a lot of people have flocked to the game to check it out. The story here is the biggest part to the game so all of the details really matter when playing through.
Admittedly, I had never heard of the series Remothered so I had a lot of catching up to do. One of the downsides to me, is the abundance of characters. They all have their place in the story and RBP states that new players should be able to play this game even without prior knowledge. That was difficult for me to understand, so from what I gathered, Jennifer is our main character and she is trying to escape the Ashmann Inn over and over again because some type of overhead message is controlling people. Inevitably she finds out that people are not who they appear to be and many secrets get revealed. My brain hurt after figuring out who was who. The masked person “Porcelain” is who you really need to stay away from. He acts as some type of facility guard.
New features include the ability to jump and crawl which was one of the user complaints from the previous game. Also, Jennifer has a new “Moth Eye” ability that allows enemies to be marked and easily scoped out. Since a lot of the game is in stealth mode, this is a huge bonus for us not-so-good at stealth players. Later, I found out too, that the developers changed how the plot is presented to players. There are no longer long documents to find in order to piece everything together. We all get to enjoy cut scenes now which move the plot along a bit faster. Last but not least, animals have been added to the game as well. While creeping around Ashmann Inn, animals can now make noise to alert stalkers to where you are in the building, so be very aware of the sounds.
Overall, this game feels a lot like creeping around the halls of BioShock, and to me that is a good thing. There is a tension that is constantly hanging around because it feels like every choice you make, or every puzzle you have to struggle to complete, could get you caught. As with all games, bugs happen so I disregarded all of that since I didn’t really encounter any. The downside I have is understanding who is who. The plot didn’t just come as easy to me. I do, however, believe that fans of the first game will really enjoy this. Be aware that this game is rated ‘M’ for Mature.
