One of my favorite games (if you can call it that really) is P.T. Unfortunately players didn’t get a full game following the original P.T. game that was supposed to be a trailer for a new Silent Hill game. If you still have an itch to see a game that uses the scares from it, SadSquare Studio released Visage, their spiritual successor the day before Halloween of course and I’m terrified to see it yet also curious to watch it all play out. As soon as Visage was released back in 2018, it was pretty much an instant hit with players. This survival horror is definitely not for kids so take caution.
Visage has been the most popular by far to add to the survival horror genre while making the game its own with other elements. The beginning alone has had players on edge since the trailer released. Most people don’t normally go into a game expecting brutal murder.
The game is broken down into chapters. When beginning it is almost assumed that you showed up after the murder. Upon walking through the house you get a tutorial that instantly lets you know that your sanity will be tested. Stay in the light and make sure to take your pills so you don’t slip mentally. I’m pretty sure anyone would cling to their light at least in a dark house filled with mostly silence. Finding keys will allow you to travel further within the home and discover new parts of the different character stories. The home in this plot has definitely seen some trying times. Not only will you face off with your mind, but also the spirits that still roam the home after decades of murders and incidents.
The audio has been pretty good. There are physical sounds that put you on edge (such as heavy gasping) and well-timed music. Moving furniture sounds just like it should and the voice acting has been good too. Assuming you’re paying attention and really focusing, the lights and camera will put you on the edge of your seat. With a dark, yet well done, environment, it is inevitable that something is going to really get you.
Will we really get to travel outside or is this all in the mind? You’ll just have to play and see. If you’re brave then this should be no problem. Otherwise, have a support buddy on hand to share the tension.
